I’m very late to this story but, whilst searching for unauthorised usage of my own photos, I came across this article from last month http://stopstealingphotos.com/lisa-saad-photographer-melbourne-australia/
This article details the fraudulent competition entries of acclaimed photographer Lisa Saad, entries that have won her many awards. She’s now been disqualified and banned. She’s not the first to have cheated in competitions and she won’t be the last, but the extent of Saad’s cheating, coupled with her stature in the photographic community, should lead to improved vetting and due diligence by competition organisers.
In the meantime, many people have been cheated by Saad, and many have put in a lot of hard work to collect evidence and expose her. Some of Saad’s immediate reactions were to issue legal action against such folk, and it is this action that may be a clue to her character. Perhaps she’s the Lance Armstrong of the photographic world? What would really help her cause is to be openly contrite, write letters of genuine apology to all the photographers and students she cheated, and offer monetary recompense. It’s how we deal with adversity that brings out our true nature and, hopefully, offer a window to self-improvement.
